Mechanical Design Engineer

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer will be involved with the planning and design of mechanical parts and assemblies for use in aerospace products.
The Mechanical Engineer performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products/processes/techniques.  This position assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tests/products/equipment.  The position requires an ability to interpret, on a broad basis, the principles, theories, and concepts of an engineering specialty.
  • Contributes to successful project completion by designing new products, redesigning and improving existing products, participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, suitability of standard material, and difficult coordination requirements.
  • Coordinates project activities with other engineering disciplines to facilitate participation of appropriate staff in project completion.
  • Participates in design reviews to ensure that the design meets customer, and company requirements and standards.
  • Creates, reviews, and approves project-related documentation.
  • Conducts design analysis (including simulations and calculations) to ensure that the design meets the system level and product level requirements for use in aerospace related products.
  • Participates in professional organizations to maintain current knowledge of technical innovations and is able to anticipate and incorporate new technologies into design projects.
  • Assists in determining project objectives to contribute to the comprehensive project design.
  • Collaborates with other team members to continuously review and revise processes as required
  • Contributes to department metrics directly and company metrics indirectly
  • Complete programs to meet quality, cost, and schedule targets
  • Mentors less experienced team members and delegates to other team members as needed
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from four-year College or University
  • Minimum five (5) years related experience in Mechanical Design Engineering
  • Proficient with SolidWorks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Strong communication, presentation (including the ability to present design presentations to small and large groups), interpersonal and team building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take on multiple projects
  • Minimum of three years experience in Aerospace industry
  • CATIA experience
  • Experience with DO-160 standards
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)/stress analysis methods
  • Experience with LED lighting applications
  • Understanding of Lean product development methodology
