Designs, and develops all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as light fixtures, electronics packaging. Transforms initial rough designs to engineering drawings using 3D CAD Software (Solid Works)
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
Apply knowledge of mechanical, optical, and electrical design principles to create lighting fixtures and other electronic devices.
Apply knowledge of plastics, metals and materials used in lighting construction and electronics packaging
Apply knowledge of different regulatory agency approvals, burn properties, etc.
Prototype, build and test light assemblies
Coordinate Design Reviews
Control Drawings standards, create and maintain file storage structures.
Apply and specify tolerances commonly used in machine design
Design products for and manufacturability and supports production on tools, jigs and assembly concepts to produce quality products.
Review engineering drawings designs to ensure compliance to establish internal specifications and standards.
Create and maintain product specifications.
Assure designs meet all customer, regulatory and internal design requirements
Experience and Educational Requirements
BS Degree in Engineering or related scientific field, or equivalent combination of experience and coursework.
0 to 5 years of experience in the engineering field, preferably dealing in the design of lighting, electronics, or aircraft components.
Good mechanical aptitude in selection of materials such as plastics, metals, finishes and hardware required.
Good working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, vacuum forming, CNC, milling, welding and laser cutting.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to interface with outside vendors to source prototype designs.
Ability to comply with concepts, practices, and procedures related to AS9100.
Must possess a good working knowledge of engineering principles.
Must possess working knowledge of personal computer systems with Microsoft Office.
Must be a self starter, highly motivated and be able to work under pressure with a minimum level of supervision.
Proficiency with CAD software (Solid Works) and MS Software.
Strong Mechanical Background
Knowledge of designing with sheet metal.
Awareness and concept of Quality Management, Design for Manufacturability, Total Quality Control and awareness of AS9100.
Experience in design of electro-mechanical equipment.
Must be able to work in a fast paced environment which emphasizes handling multiple priorities.
Experience interfacing with outside vendors to source prototype designs.
Experience creating technical documentation.
Experience working in an environment with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
