Mechanical Design Engineer - Heavy Equipment

Our New Berlin area client is searching for a direct hire Mechanical Design Engineer.

The Design Engineer's primary role is to collaborate with the product development team to design, develop, and test systems and/or components related to new and existing designs. High level of accountability to commitments while maintaining strong attention to safety, design quality, cost and schedule.

Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Produce innovative designs with a high degree of cost-efficient manufacturability.
  • Use SolidWorks to develop and maintain 3D models and to create and update drawings.
  • Coordinate projects with the design / drafting team.
  • Work closely with the product development team to develop new products utilizing the latest materials, processes and technology. Assist the team in gathering detailed and complete specifications for new products.
  • Support the sustaining team "vision" to reduce product issues, warranty liabilities, and shop rework.
  • Work closely with other departments (operations, materials and sales) and suppliers to reduce cost and improve quality and lead times.
  • "Hands-on" to resolve problems encountered in the fabrication, machining and construction of products and/or components.
  • Communicate on a technical and non-technical level with members of other departments, suppliers and/or customers.
  • Perform product testing to ensure that products meet specifications and design intent.
  • Collaborate with sales in voice of the customer (VOC) meetings.
Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineer is required.
  • At least one year of practical design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience working with heavy equipment, engine powertrain, and engine driveline components desired.
Other Desired Experience/Knowledge:
  • General understanding of fabrication, machining and welding processes.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulic systems and fluid power systems.
  • Ability to communicate both written/orally with internal/external customers. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency using SolidWorks, and MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Basic understanding of ERP and/or MRP systems as well as a PDM system
