Our New Berlin area client is searching for a direct hire Mechanical Design Engineer.
The Design Engineer's primary role is to collaborate with the product development team to design, develop, and test systems and/or components related to new and existing designs. High level of accountability to commitments while maintaining strong attention to safety, design quality, cost and schedule.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Produce innovative designs with a high degree of cost-efficient manufacturability.
Use SolidWorks to develop and maintain 3D models and to create and update drawings.
Coordinate projects with the design / drafting team.
Work closely with the product development team to develop new products utilizing the latest materials, processes and technology. Assist the team in gathering detailed and complete specifications for new products.
Support the sustaining team "vision" to reduce product issues, warranty liabilities, and shop rework.
Work closely with other departments (operations, materials and sales) and suppliers to reduce cost and improve quality and lead times.
"Hands-on" to resolve problems encountered in the fabrication, machining and construction of products and/or components.
Communicate on a technical and non-technical level with members of other departments, suppliers and/or customers.
Perform product testing to ensure that products meet specifications and design intent.
Collaborate with sales in voice of the customer (VOC) meetings.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineer is required.
At least one year of practical design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Experience working with heavy equipment, engine powertrain, and engine driveline components desired.
Other Desired Experience/Knowledge:
General understanding of fabrication, machining and welding processes.
Basic understanding of hydraulic systems and fluid power systems.
Ability to communicate both written/orally with internal/external customers. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
Proficiency using SolidWorks, and MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
Basic understanding of ERP and/or MRP systems as well as a PDM system
